HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY
Oxygen is essential to life and the air we breathe is only 21% oxygen. Therefore, most people are not receiving as much oxygen as they think from just simply breathing! Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an opportunity for your body to receive significantly more oxygen. This is achieved by relaxing inside a Sechrist chamber, which is pressurized above normal atmospheric pressure, while oxygen is delivered to you to breathe through a lightweight mask. As a result of this pressurized environment, oxygen is dissolved into the bloodstream and body tissues faster than what is obtained through normal atmospheric conditions. HBOT increased the amount of oxygen that is available for your brain as well as any damaged or inflamed tissues throughout your body.
HBOT can increase the effectiveness of other therapies, including the functional neurology and neurofeedback therapies offered at SWBPC. The brain uses 30% of the body’s oxygen and benefits greatly from HBOT. The goal of using HBOT is to get healthy and to stay healthy!
While HBOT is an completely off-label use at SWBPC, this type of therapy has been used with variety of conditions, including:
- Athletic Conditioning
- Brain Injury
- Chronic Pain
- Injury Healing
- Memory Loss
- Seizure Disorders
- PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Pre-Surgery/Post-Surgery Healing
- Traumatic Brain Injury
